BarterThat
Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 10, 2026 · Operated by Millennials Creatives LLC ("BarterThat", "we", "us")
BarterThat is a cashless barter marketplace (the "Service") where people trade skills, goods, and services — no money changes hands between members in the app. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights.
1. Information we collect
- Account & profile: your name, email address, password (stored hashed by our auth provider), general location, and your age confirmation (18+).
- Content you create: listings, what you're looking for, profile links, and messages you send in trades.
- Optional self-identification: community/heritage, faith, identity, and accessibility badges are optional and self-selected. Some of these may be considered sensitive/"special category" data. We collect them only if you choose to add them, only to help members find and support one another — never to exclude anyone, and never required.
- Optional ID verification: if you choose to verify your identity, our provider (Stripe Identity) collects a government ID image and a selfie to confirm it's you. We receive only a pass/fail result and basic verification metadata — not the ID images themselves.
- Optional media & voice: photos or videos you attach, and — only if you use the voice features — audio you record (voice notes and, on some devices, speech-to-text).
- Business details (B2B, optional): a self-reported income bracket and self-entered license information, used for B2B matching. These are not shown publicly.
- Payments: if you subscribe to BarterThat+ or promote a listing, our payment processors (Stripe on web; Apple/Google via RevenueCat in the apps) handle your payment details. We never receive your full card number.
- On your device: some app state (your session, preferences, chosen language) is stored locally so the app works between visits.
2. How we use it
- To run the marketplace — publish your listings, match trades, and enable member-to-member chat.
- To translate the app and messages into your chosen language, and to power the AI matchmaker.
- For trust & safety — verification, reporting, blocking, and dispute handling.
- To process subscriptions and promoted listings, and to send transactional email (e.g., confirm your address).
- To respond to you and to comply with law.
3. Service providers we share data with
We use trusted third parties ("sub-processors") to run the Service. They process data only to provide their service to us:
| Provider | Purpose | What they may process |
| Supabase | Database & authentication | Account, profile, listings, messages |
| Vercel | Hosting the web app & APIs | Requests you make to the Service |
| Anthropic (Claude) | Translating chat & interface text, AI matchmaking | Message/interface text and listing details you translate or match |
| Resend | Transactional email (e.g., confirmation) | Your email address |
| Stripe | Payments & optional ID verification | Payment details; ID + selfie (verification only) |
| Cloudinary | Hosting photos/videos you upload | Media you attach |
| RevenueCat + Apple/Google | In-app purchases (native apps) | Purchase/subscription status |
| Google (Android) | Speech-to-text, if you use voice input on Android | Audio you speak while using that feature |
Information you publish in a listing or profile is visible to other members. We also disclose information where required by law or to protect the Service and its users.
4. What we do NOT do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not use third-party advertising or an advertising identifier (IDFA/AAID), and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not use your optional self-identification to exclude or discriminate.
5. Your rights & choices
- Access, correction, deletion: you can edit your profile and listings in the app, and delete your account in-app (Profile → "Delete my account"), which removes your account and associated data.
- EU/UK (GDPR): you have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, port, and object to processing. Where we process optional sensitive badges, we rely on your explicit consent, which you can withdraw by removing them.
- California (CCPA/CPRA): you have the right to know, delete, correct, and to opt out of "sale"/"sharing" — we do not sell or share your personal information.
- To exercise any right, or ask a question, email support@barterthat.app.
6. Age
BarterThat is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18; if you believe a minor has provided data, contact us and we will remove it.
7. International transfers
We and our providers are based in the United States, so your information may be processed in the U.S. and other countries. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.
8. Data retention & security
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service and meet legal obligations, then delete or anonymize it. We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data (including access controls and row-level security), but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
9. Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date, and where appropriate we'll notify you in the app.
